Troubleshooting Tips for the Common Chromecast Issues

Buying a Chromecast is an easy decision to make. For $35, you can get a wireless dongle that plugins into a spare HDMI port on your TV, and allows you to simply “cast” video and audio to it. However, you may always overcome troubles when you cast your media to TV. Just a few days ago, I’ve created a poll on Google Plus to collect some common Chromecast issues (see below). So today I’ll share some possible solutions to help you get things right. To learn more tips on streaming media to TV, check out this guide>>

1. Some kinds of video can’t be streamed

We all know that Chromecast has limitation in the input formats. It only compatible with MP4 and WebM encoded with Video codecs H.264 High Profile Level 4.1, 4.2 and 5, VP8 and audio codecs HE-AAC, LC-AAC, CELT/Opus, MP3 and Vorbis. So if your video files can’t be streamed, that’s simply because they’re not supported by Chromecast.

To solve this problem, you can try out Wondershare Video Converter which newly equipped with the Media Server function to let you directly cast any video format to Chromecast. Turn to this article for more solutions.

2. Subtitle doesn't show

In fact, all common apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Movies, Hulu, HBO Go and many others have the subtitle option, so that Chromecast is capable casting the subtitles onto your TV. However, as for local files such as MKV, Chromecast doesn’t have this function. But some applications, like Wondershare Video Converter, VideoStream and AllCast, can help make it up.

3. Buffering and lag when using tab casting

If you use apps like YouTube on your phone, the steaming process with Chromecast is pretty good. But if you’re streaming via a tab in Chrome, the lagging can be very drastic.

If both your wireless router and broadband speed are well, then one quick way to fix this is to change the playback quality. To do this, click the Chromecast icon in the Chrome app bar and pick Options.

As you can see, there’ll be three projection quality options. You can switch to the lowest 480p and resume watching your video. Although the video quality will decrease, you’ll have a smoother video experience.

4. WiFi signal is weak

Connectivity is one of the biggest factors in streaming to your Chromecast. If your connection isn’t up to it, or the Chromecast has problems communication with your wireless access point, then playback is going to be painful.

If fact, Chromecast is shipped with a small HDMI extender cable, which is not only useful when connecting the device to an HDMI socket in a hard-to-reach place, but also helpful to move the Chromecast away from the heavily shielded rear of your TV, which will improve your WiFi connectivity.

5. Doesn’t work with VPN Android clients

This problem can be used by using VPN in a DD-WRT Router. Then the Chromecast stick can be on same LAN as the device casting, and both behind same VPN.
