How to Backup Data on Locked iPhone 6/5S/5C/5/4S/4/3GS

Forgot my iPhone 4 screen lock password!

I forgot the password for my iPhone 4. Now the lock button is broken, and iTunes doesn't recognize it. This iPhone 4 has been used for a long time, and I think it's time to change it to a new iPhone 5. However, I have lots of data on it and most of them are quite important. Is there any way that I can back up data from a locked iPhone 4? Please let me know if you have good advices. Thanks in advance!!

It's sad to hear that. The good news is that you have a chance to back up your locked iPhone data, exactly speaking, to recover data from it. First, you need to find a tool that allows you to recover data from the locked iPhone. No idea about it? Here is my recommendation: Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS (for Windows users) or Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS (Mac), which can assist you in accessing your iPhone, preview and recover contacts, messages, photos, videos, notes, call history and more contents on it without iTunes. Both of the programs currently work perfectly with iPhone 6 Plus, 6, 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 4 S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Download the free trial version of iPhone data recovery below to have a try.

Note: The windows version supports the latest Windows 8, and the Mac one supports Mavericks.

How to back up locked iPhone data in steps

Next, let's check how to back up data on a locked iPhone without iTunes in detail. This guide is based on the Windows version of Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS. If you are a Mac user, please download the Mac version. The operation is similar.

Step 1. Connect your iPhone to the computer

Launch the program after installing it, and connect your iPhone to the computer. When your device is detected by the program, you'll see the window shown as follows.

Step 2. Scan your iPhone for data on it

Don't worry that you forgot your iPhone screen lock password. As long as you can enter the system, you can get back your data on it. For iPhone 4/3GS users, you can switch to the Advance Mode to get a deeper scan. Then follow the description that the program shows you like below to begin scanning your locked iPhone:

  1. Hold your iPhone and click the "Start" button.
  2. Press the Power and Home buttons at the same time for exactly 10 seconds.
  3. After 10 seconds, release the Power button, but keep holding the Home button for another 15 seconds.

When you're told that you've successfully entered the scanning mode, the software will automatically begin scanning your iPhone as the window shown below.

For iPhone 6 Plus/6/5S/5C/5/4S users, you can directly click the "Start Scan" button on the main window to scan it as follows.

Step 3. Preview and back up data on your locked iPhone

When the scan completes, all data that the software found on your iPhone will be displayed in clear categories. You can preview them one by one and click "Recover" to save them all on your computer with one click.

The data you find there contains those existing on your iPhone and those deleted from your iPhone recently. They have their own color. You can turn on the button on the top to "Only display the deleted items" when you want to separate them. You can also watch the video tutorial below.

Note: If you're still asked to enter the password by Dr.Fone for iOS, don't be angry. You need to know that Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS can't change anything on your iPhone, including disable the password. So, it won't help to erase the password. If you've synced your device with iTunes recently and iTunes would remember the password. In this way, Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS can get into your device by using it. Of, you don't need to run iTunes on your computer when you use Dr.Fone for iOS.

If this guide is not useful to you, you can try to use the recovery mode of Recover from iCloud Backup provided by Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS to check the content of your iCloud backup. Once you enabled the backup function on your iPhone, there may be a backup generated automatically for you.

The screen on my iphone 5c is black with lines running through it. The phone itself works and I can hear all my notifcations coming through. My icloud is too full to back up and my computer requires a passcode which i cant access. How can i back up my phone so that I can have all my messages when i get a new phone?

I'm afraid the entering passcode is an inevitable step to trusting the computer. You can try to connect the iPhone to the computer it trusted before. It probably won't require for screen password to access the data on the phone. If it still requires passcode, you can try Recover from iTunes backup file or Recover from iCloud Backup File mode. Both options won't require you to enter screen password.

my screen gave out and I wanted to back up my info on the phone before I get a new one, it wont back it up because it keep asking me to enter the passcode, is there a way to enter it thru the computer instead of thru the phone?

I feel sorry our program did not help you out. Currently we don't have any solution to skipping the Trust the computer step, which requires for screen passcode. What you can do now is to write an email to support@service.wondershare.com, we will make compensation or reimbursement for your purchase.

So I tried reading through a thousand of these comments and from what I can determine, I am hosed, or rather my daughter is. So I have to ask, what is the purpose of Wondershare???? If my phone was working (or if all of these people remembered their passwords) we could use iTunes to sync, recover, backup or whatever we want to do. But in all cases people have a phone where they either forgot their password or their screen is damaged. Apple Store already replaced my daughter's phone with a rebuilt free of charge which I have to say was great of them. However, I still want to recover the 3000 pictures and videos she probably took between December 2nd (the only time it was ever synced) and March 11th. The phone actually works, the computer knows it is plugged in, but the screen will not come on. They even replaced the screen and it still wouldn't work, so there is some other damage, but it still functions in some capacity. When I plug in, iTunes says "need passcode" - non starter. When I try Mr. Wondershare, it says "need passcode". So why in the universe would I pay $70 for a program that does absolutely nothing for me. Am I missing something here? Something as ridiculous as being completely unable to retrieve data is something iPhone and iMac lovers would scornfully refer to as a "feature" if it was Windows. Except, I have no problem retrieving data from a locked phone on my Windows Phone. Is there seriously no way to retrieve my daughter's data if the screen doesn't work?

What you can do is to connect the iPhone to the computer it trusted before. It probably won't require for screen password to access the data on the phone.

Iphone 4s is disabled && says connect to itunes , the password was put in wrong to many times due to cracks in the screen , is there anyway to be able to back up the phone or recover photos ? I know the passcode thats not the problem just connecting it to itunes will i lose my data ?
disqus_K95Ejrv1eo
I'm afraid it will. Currently our program Dr.Fone for iOS does not work on recovering encrypted backup files.

You can follow the steps below: 1. You can open iTunes, click the iPhone button on top right of the interface, uncheck Encrypt iPhone backup. 2. Reconnect the device and try it again. Does it work now?
