How to Backup Data on Locked iPhone 5S/5C/5/4S/4/3GS

Forgot my iPhone 4 screen lock password!

I forgot the password for my iPhone 4. Now the lock button is broken, and iTunes doesn't recognize it. This iPhone 4 has been used for a long time, and I think it's time to change it to a new iPhone 5. However, I have lots of data on it and most of them are quite important. Is there any way that I can back up data from a locked iPhone 4? Please let me know if you have good advices. Thanks in advance!!

It's sad to hear that. The good news is that you have a chance to back up your locked iPhone data, exactly speaking, to recover data from it. First, you need to find a tool that allows you to recover data from the locked iPhone. No idea about it? Here is my recommendation: Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS (for Windows users) or Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS (Mac), which can assist you in accessing your iPhone, preview and recover contacts, messages, photos, videos, notes, call history and more contents on it without iTunes. Both of the programs currently work perfectly with iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 4 S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Download the free trial version of iPhone data recovery below to have a try.

Note: The windows version supports the latest Windows 8, and the Mac one supports Mavericks.

How to back up locked iPhone data in steps

Next, let's check how to back up data on a locked iPhone without iTunes in detail. This guide is based on the Windows version of Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS. If you are a Mac user, please download the Mac version. The operation is similar.

Step 1. Connect your iPhone to the computer

Launch the program after installing it, and connect your iPhone to the computer. When your device is detected by the program, you'll see the window shown as follows.

Step 2. Scan your iPhone for data on it

Don't worry that you forgot your iPhone screen lock password. As long as you can enter the system, you can get back your data on it. For iPhone 4/3GS users, you can switch to the Advance Mode to get a deeper scan. Then follow the description that the program shows you like below to begin scanning your locked iPhone:

  1. Hold your iPhone and click the "Start" button.
  2. Press the Power and Home buttons at the same time for exactly 10 seconds.
  3. After 10 seconds, release the Power button, but keep holding the Home button for another 15 seconds.

When you're told that you've successfully entered the scanning mode, the software will automatically begin scanning your iPhone as the window shown below.

For iPhone 5S/5C/5/4S users, you can directly click the "Start Scan" button on the main window to scan it as follows.

Step 3. Preview and back up data on your locked iPhone

When the scan completes, all data that the software found on your iPhone will be displayed in clear categories. You can preview them one by one and click "Recover" to save them all on your computer with one click.

The data you find there contains those existing on your iPhone and those deleted from your iPhone recently. They have their own color. You can turn on the button on the top to "Only display the deleted items" when you want to separate them. You can also watch the video tutorial below.

Note: If you're still asked to enter the password by Dr.Fone for iOS, don't be angry. You need to know that Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS can't change anything on your iPhone, including disable the password. So, it won't help to erase the password. If you've synced your device with iTunes recently and iTunes would remember the password. In this way, Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS can get into your device by using it. Of, you don't need to run iTunes on your computer when you use Dr.Fone for iOS.

If this guide is not useful to you, you can try to use the recovery mode of Recover from iCloud Backup provided by Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS to check the content of your iCloud backup. Once you enabled the backup function on your iPhone, there may be a backup generated automatically for you.

Hi, I get you what you've said. If you have synced your iPhone with your computer, there is a chance for you to backup your data. However, since you've never synced your iPhone, then there is no way available to backup all the data

I went to the FAQ on Wondershare, and it says you have to have the passcode for 4S or it won't backup. Is that accurate? Kind of defeats the purpose of my problem. :\

I have an iPhone 4S that has never been synced. I downloaded wondershare, but it keeps saying I need to "trust the computer" but nothing is showing up on the phone asking me to or in iTunes. HELP!

Hi, if the above mentioned way doesn't work, then there is nothing you can do but put your iPhone to Recovery Mode to restore it as new phone.

I've tried what you said but it won't work, it says the attempt failed. Is there anything else I can do???

Jessica, I guess you haven\'t used iTunes on your computer to sync with your iPhone, right? If you\'ve used it before you forget your passcode, then there will be no problem of backing up your iPhone to iTunes. It\'s a common sense and it\'s the way people used to reset their passcode.

Hi, Jessica, in this case, you should connect your iPhone with your computer which you\'ve synced your iPhone with before > launch iTunes > backup your iPhone to iTunes. Later, try the feature \"Recover from iTunes backup file\" on Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS to backup data directly from iTunes.

Backup in iTunes doesn\'t work if you don\'t know your passcode.

Hi, This doesn\'t work for me. I have a 5S and the screen became unresponsive out of nowhere. It will not allow me to use the keypad to enter my passcode or to use the power off slider, etc. It won\'t let me answer calls or anything. I cannot afford to do a restore and lose all of my data because I have valuable texts & photos on there that I MUST backup. But I have tried all of the suggestions to do so with Wondershare Dr. Fone and none of them are working. When I plug my phone in, the program says \"Your iOS device is now connected, please click the Start button to begin scanning.\" So I click it, and then it says \"Your device is passcode protected. Follow the steps below to continue: 1. Enter the passcode on your device; 2. Reconnect your device. But I cannot enter my passcode!! I don\'t know what to do. I don\'t see any of the other options listed, like \"Advanced Mode\".

Hi, have you backed up your iPhone 5 to iCloud? If so, you can directly choose \"Recover from iCloud Backup file\", the 3rd tab on the program, then let this program scan iCloud backup file to get your contacts out.
