Recommended Format For Uploading Videos Onto YouTube

At the moment, YouTube supports and recognizes videos files that are in the format of WMV, AVI, MOV, 3GP, MPEG, MP4, FLV, SWF, WebM and MKV (h.264). The limit of the video file is 2GB with a maximum resolution of up to 4K. You can also check your current uploading limit in the account’s feature page. If you need to upload a video file that is running more than 15 minutes, you have to upgrade to either being a partner or increase the upload settings. Please click HERE for instructions on how to increase the uploading limit.

For an upload of video file size that is larger than what’s permitted, please make sure that your browser is the latest version. It would also be best to record your video in the aspect ratio of 16:9; otherwise you’ll find your uploaded video of 4:3 being rendered or stretched with annoying black bars around once it’s switch to play on widescreen.

On top of that, YouTube will also automatically convert and optimized your videos as the Flash Video (FLV) format so it’s playable with the YouTube’s FLV player. Hence, it is highly recommended to upload your videos in HD for quality playback with the recognized coded such as H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4. If possible, try to keep original frame rate. Or else, ensure that it is between 25 to 30fps. Check out for more details about the advanced encoding setting here.

As for the accompanying audio, the recommended file type would be either an MP3 or AAC with 44.1kHz sampling rate paired with the higher bitrate possible (not less than 192kbps). However, it’s not uncommon that users are being prompted with the same error message stating that their files are either not supported or recognized. So it might be worthwhile for you to have a quick check whether your source or original video is corrupted and try to upload your files once again.

If the same error message is being prompted once more, the likelihood is that the audio and video codec is not recognized because the file format is only a container for storing the audio and video files. In that case, you might want to consider the Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate.
