by Christine Smith • 2024-01-11 10:25:31 • Proven solutions

Subtitles are the way to great help, in case we are in need of some genuine help. However, the more it is of help, the same it can create irritation in case of delays. If these subtitles are out of sync with videos, they can distract to a great extent and can create confusion, and spoil the complete flavor of the video. But thankfully, there are some ways to adjust/sync VLC Subtitle Delay, either it is Windows or Mac.

Part 1. Adjustment of Subtitles Delay on Windows

When you are experiencing this trouble on Windows, you need to open VLC, click on Tools, then Track Synchronization. You will find the Subtitles/Video section.

In case, the subtitle is lagging behind the video, and you need to provide a negative value to the "Advance of subtitles over video" section. Take an example, that Subtitles are behind the Video for a delay of around 5 seconds approximately, you need to do negative or hastened 5.000 s. The speed of subtitles is normally adjusted to the video. Just click on the refresh sign, and you are done with it. In case, your subtitles are ahead of the video, and you need to enter the positive value of that particular amount of time, which can be called delayed and then continue the process of refreshing. You are sure to see the noticeable change with your subtitles.

You can even try with the shortcut "command H" in case you need to Increase subtitle delay or use "Command G" to decrease subtitle delay. With both the shortcuts, you are going to land on the desired page and can easily adjust the subtitles. In case, your subtitles are ahead of the video, and you need to delay it by the approximate time; while, in case you have the subtitles behind your video streaming, just move it quicker by the amount of time, you are feeling. In both instances, you are going to have the subtitles adjusted to the best, so that you do not feel any difficulty while watching your video.

Subtitles are quite an effective way to better understanding the videos. The adjustment of the subtitles mentioned above on both the platforms are just temporary and they the sync done, will be gone the next time, you open the same video. In case you are looking for a permanent solution, then the only solution left is to find the perfectly synced subtitles. However, for the time being, you can enjoy the video at its best with this temporary solution of syncing subtitles.

Step 3 Adjust/Sync the subtitles with the video.

Select the wrong subtitle text from the left section, and replace it with the correct one in the Subtitle text field on the right. To sync the captions, use the Start Time and End Time values that help you define the display duration as per the text. Repeat these two steps for each of the inconsistent subtitles individually.

Next, use the options under the Font section to change the font type to something else (e.g. Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial, etc.), modify its size and color, and redefine other attributes like bold, italics, and underline.

The Outline Width and Opacity options let you configure the text’s stroke width and the opacity level respectively. You can even specify where the subtitles should be displayed on the screen by selecting the Top, Middle, or Bottom buttons present under the Position section.

Step 4 Produce a new media file with the correct subtitles.

After everything is configured properly, use the File Location field to set a destination folder where the new video should be saved, and click the Export from the right of the video to produce a video with the properly synced subtitles.
