How to Kill or Force Close Apps on iOS 9.3

While force- quitting an app should never be the first solution for problematic or freezing apps on your device, it can occasionally help when things go wrong. There are apps that you can install on your iPhone or iPad that won’t work quite the way you want them to. Sometimes, they freeze or just stop working while you are using them. Force-quitting can solve this problem although it isn’t something you should do often.

This is because re-launching the app can consume more power and time as the app updates in the foreground. It is however worth knowing how to force close an app in case you ever need to. This post will show you a few ways to do this.

Part 1: How to Force Quit an App on iOS 9

The process is similar to iOS 7 or iOS 8. The only thing that has changed is the design and the fast app switcher and task manager. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: To bring up the fast app switcher, double click on the “Home Button” or 3D Touch press the left side of the screen if you are using iPhone 6S. Swipe the app you want to force quit.

Step 2: Touch the app card and flick it up and off the screen

It is that simple and you will notice that after doing this, your apps will get much better at powering down.

Part 2: Force Quit 3 Apps at the same time

So what do you do if more than one app is causing you problems? Again, you may not need to force quit all these apps but it is worth knowing how to do it just in case you need to. Here’s how

Step 1: Again Double click on the Home Button or 3D Touch press the left side of the screen on iPhone 6S to bring up the fast app switcher.

You will also see that iOS 9 shows a fourth app on the left which means you can try to force quit 4 at the same time. It might just work.

Part 3: Force Quit Apps without using the Fast App Switcher

If for some reason you can’t or don’t want to use the fast app switcher to kill the apps, you can still do it the old fashioned way.

Step 1: Go to the app you want to force-close and then hold down the Power button

Step 2: When you see the “Slide to Power off screen” hold down the home button

Those are the 3 different ways you can force close an app or apps. Like we said, this may not be the ideal way to get your apps to behave but it can be a great solution especially for high media apps such as Facebook and Skype that tend to misbehave on iPhone and iPad.

Even if you never use it, it is a great skill to have. plus, when you force-quit an app you will notice that the apps begin to work and respond better.
