Playback Options: Watch side-by-side 3D video on PC or 3D TV

To view side-by-side 3D video on a PC or 3D TV, you’ll need either a 3D PC or TV, 3D media player, 3D-compatible monitor or TV and a pair of 3D glasses for each viewer. Read on for detailed instructions.

Option 1: On PC with display card that supports 3D and 3D monitor

Most 3D monitor comes with a 3D media player and you can use it directly to playback 3D videos. Otherwise, choose any other third-party player if you like. Make sure that you choose the side-by-side mode in your 3D media player's configuration settings. In most cases, the video will playback like a charm. If not, try swapping left and right eye images in 3D display configuration of the 3D media player.

Option 2: On a 3D-compatible TV

Before 3D conversion from 2D, check your 3D-TV compatible format first and make sure that you've chosen a compatible video format. Most 3D-TV supports the MP4 and WMV video format. There are three different methods on how you can watch side-by-side 3D video on a 3D TV; depending on the source of the 3D video's delivery. You can use your PC, hard drive or even the DVD player to stream 3D videos to your 3D-compatible TV.

1. Use 3D TV as an external monitor for the PC

3D TV can be used as an external monitor for your PC (display card supports 3D). For this trick, you’ll need a video cable to attach the PC to the 3D TV; generally via a HDMI, DVI, or VGA provided with your TV's purchase. The cable needed varies depending on the ports on your PC as well as the ones supported by the 3D TV. You’ll need an adapter if your port on the PC is not the same as the port on the 3D TV.

Once you have the necessary cable (or an adapter) to connect your PC to the 3D TV, follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Turn off both the 3D TV and the PC. Connect the cable to the TV before turning on the computer to ensure it recognize the TV as an external display.
  • Step 2: Once the start-up finished, your 3D-TV will become an external monitor. The playback will be the same as the instructions above on in Option 1.

2. Stream 3D video to 3D TV via hard drive

Some 3D TV’s USB port supports 3D content decoding, so you can load 3D videos to your hard drive or flash drive via USB and then hook it up to your 3D TV.

3. Use DVD player to stream 3D video to TV

If your 3D TV’s USB port does not support 3D content decoding, you can connect your portable hard drive to a hardware media player just like the DVD or Blu-ray Player and let it stream 3D content to your 3D-TV.
