How to Compress MOV Files (Quicktime) in Mac/Win (Windows 8 included)
I have a 120MB .mov file that I want to compress to less than 25MB so I can email it using gmail. I right-clicked and selected "Compress," but it only got it down to 99MB as a zip file. Any hint to solve my problem?
Maybe you also come accross above trouble. A large QuickTime MOV file usually takes much space of our computer or portable devices like iPhone, iPod, PSP, etc. It even curbs us to send to our friends or share on the internet. Unfortunately, WinRAR or WinZip don't actually create new media in a newer, more compact format, they just compress it. In this case, you need a professional yet easy-to-master MOV compressor like Wondershare MOV Video Converter(Windows 8 supported). It can compress QuickTime MOV files in a flash with lossless quality (batch compression supported). Below is the step-by-step guide.
Note: Two versions available:Video Converter (supports Windows 8/Windows 7/XP/Vista) and Video Converter for Mac - MOV compressor Mac (supports Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8). They share the same feature. This guide takes Windows version screenshot, just make sure you get the right version. (To compress MOV Mac, you can also refer to this guide, for the basical steps are almost same.)
Step 1: Load QuickTime MOV files to this MOV compressor
Click "Add Files" button to load your destination file from desk or folders. You can import more than one file, press "Ctrl" when selecting the QuickTime MOV videos. Or just drag and drop all MOV files you want to compress into this program. They will show as thumbnails, you can fix the list order and preview them in the right preview screen
Step 2: Customize settings for QuickTime MOV
Click the format image icon to reveal the drop-down format list. Select QuickTime MOV as the output format, and then click the "Settings" button to manipulate video & audio arameters as per your needs:
Encoder: Click arrow to choose drop down options. or just let it as defaulted.
Resolution: There are many options. 240*160, 320*240,480*320,480*368,640*480, 1280*720 etc.
Frame Rate: Set it to slow down or speed up your playing speed. Generally, value above 20 makes little difference.
Bit Rate: You can choose from 256 to 2000kbps as per your needs.
(Note: lower parameters usually mean lower size, but also lower quality. Please bear this in mind)
If you want to play your MOV files on iPod, iPhone, etc, you can also trim or crop your video to the desired length (just right click to select "Edit").
Tips: If the output format is not your concern, you can also convert MOV to MP4, M4V, or FLV which is likely to render smaller size file. To do it, click the format image of each video item to access output format list, and then choose your preferred video format.
Step 3: Start to Compress QuickTime MOV files
When all settings or modification satisfied, all you need to do is hit Convert button to activate MOV compression. After all compressions completed, click the Open Folder button to check the output quality and video size. If satisfied, you can smoothly put them into your portable devices or send to your friends for sharing now. Cheers!
