Edit scanned PDF with Adobe Acrobat

Step 1. Perform OCR feature to recognize the PDF text

Generally speaking, the text on a scanned PDF is not selectable. To edit a scanned PDF, you have to make sure the PDF text is selectable. To make the PDF text editable, the first thing to do is performing the OCR feature to recognize the text.  Both Acrobat 9 and Acrobat X have the built-in OCR feature. If you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, select Document > OCR Text Recognition > Recognize Text Using OCR. In Acrobat X Pro, Choose Tools > Recognize Text > In This File.

Step 1. Download Wondershare PDF Editor

Click the download link to download Wondershare PDF Editorr. After the download, click the .exe file to install it on your computer. To edit a scanned PDF, you need to click the OCR button to enable the OCR feature. Only when the OCR feature is enabled, Wondershare PDF Editor is able to recognize the text on the scanned PDF.

Step 2. Perform OCR to the scanned PDF

After you upgrade the PDF Editor to the OCR featured version, click the OPEN button to open the scanned PDF you’re going to convert. On the pop-up, select the right language for the PDF image and click the Perform OCR button.

Step 3. Edit Scanned PDF

After performing OCR, all the features of Wondershare PDF Editor will be applicable to scanned PDF. You can: 

  • Modify or insert PDF text. In the Home menu, click Edit Text and then move your mouse to the PDF where you want to edit the text. Right-click the text block, when the cursor appears, enter the right text.
  • Annotate PDF. In Home menu, you can see that Wondershare PDF Editor provides a range of annotation tools for you to annotate the PDF content. Users are able to add sticky note, text box, highlight, underline, strikethrough PDF text, and markup PDF with all kind of shapes.
  • Insert Images or Watermark. In the Insert menu, click the Picture to add an existing image to the fillable PDF form. To add watermark, click the Watermark icon to add text or image watermark.
  • Manage PDF pages. On Wondershare PDF Editor, several tools are provided for you to manage PDF pages. In the Pages menu, click the corresponding tool to delete pages, extract page, rotate pages, crop pages, etc.

I noticed that in this article no Window PDF editing tool is introduced to edit scanned PDF. Must I buy an Acrobat X Pro to edit scanned PDF on Window computer ? Don't think so.
Anybody know any PDF editing tool that will edit a scanned PDF on Windows 7 PC ? Any idea?
