Nero vs Roxio - Which is Better for DVD Burning?

Nero and Roxio are the two most famous brands for media creation. Actually, when we refer to Nero or Roxio, we usually mean Nero Burning ROM or Roxio Creator (formerly Easy CD Creator and its upgraded Easy Media Creator). This article will compare Nero Burning ROM 11 with Roxio Creator 2011. A Nero vs Roxio comparison chart is generated.

Nero vs Roxio Feature War and Bloat

Nero Burning ROM, was initially released in 1997--15 years ago. Until version 10, however, Nero Burning Rom is available as a stand-alone product. Now the latest version is Nero Burning ROM 11, released in Dec, 2011. Early versions of Nero version 6 would burn only data DVDs using the ISO 9660 file system. However, Nero Burning ROM now supports converting and copying DVD discs, in addition to DVD burning.

Roxio initially released Easy CD Creator in the beginning of 21 century, as a competitor to Nero Burning ROM. Compared to Nero's advanced and configurable DVD encoder settings, Roxio's strength is to simplify the process in order for users to create DVD media.

However, compared to the initial version, both Nero and Roxio have added so much bloat that make the setup package exceed 100MB (Nero vs Roxio = 110Mb vs 480Mb). In the war between each other, they are trying to be everything to everyone. Either new version gets farther and farther from their roots. Ironically, DVD Creator by Wondershare is less than 50Mb, but with similar features. Plus, both Nero Burning ROM and Roxio Creator 2012 have NO Mac version. Alternative to Nero and Roxio

Nero and Roxio used to be decent DVD burners. However, lots of bloatware is now included in both tools, making it less intuitive as before, and much more expensive on the other hand. So, stay away from bloatware and take my suggestion - Wondershare DVD Creator, designed with an intuitive and user-friendly interface. Most importantly it supports all popular formats. With it, you can burn your favorite videos and photos to DVD without any hassle and easily enjoy high quality movies on TV. Here is the supported format list:

Note that both Nero Burning ROM and Roxio Creator 2012 have NO Mac version. You are highly recommended to use DVD Creator for Mac as the alternative.

roxio converts much quicker than nero, but nero with it's 2 passes gives a slightly better quality ( but it takes twice as long for convertion...).And I found the video plays smoother with roxio than it does with nero...shame cause I used to be a nero fan,but now I use roxio for speed.

I strongly recommend Wondershare DVD Creator. It always works stably, and supports almost any video format like MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, VOB, etc.

I just purchased a computer with Windows 8 that came with bundled Nero burning software. I tried to use Roxio Creator NXT and it crashed the computer when I inserted a dvd disc and closed the drive. I then installed Nero Platinum 12 and found it is totally unusable. (103 page manual for Nero Video part alone) Nero Video Express is supposed to be the simplified version for dvd burning but when you go to select video files to burn it doesn't recognize mp4 or avi files. What a useless piece of software. Just as an example, they continually ask for your serial number when you attempt to contact them and it takes quite a time to type in their 20 digit serial number. Stay away from Nero.....
