If this way doesn't help, you can restore your iPhone by restoring your iPhone from the iTunes backup you've made on iTunes: connect you riPhone with your computer > Launch iTunes > In Summary window, click Restore > select the backup file to restore it to your iPhone.

I also tried "tunesgo" which gave me the error "object reference not set to an instance of an object"
It tells me in not in "normal mode" and to restart .. but after restarting it just says the same thing
I don't get what you mean. When you hold down Home button and the power button, for sure, you're putting your iPhone into recovery mode. And in that case, the screen will direct you to iTunes and do a restore. This article is about how to get iPhone out of recovery mode. One is getting out of recovery mode by restoring your iPhone. Another one is using the restart button on Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS to get it out.
It's also not working for me... I pressed the home and power button too... the screen directs me to itunes and do a restore
Make sure that your iPhone is in recovery mode, not DFU mode. If it's in recovery mode, you can get it out of the mode by clicking the Restart button. If it's in DFU mode, please try to press the Home button and the Power button on your iPhone at the same time to restart it.
