b. "Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close"
c. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Main Cause

Browsers stop working for several reasons.

IE Temporary Files

Internet Explorer always store visited WebPages to help you quickly visit a website that you have visited previously. But on the contrary, too many temporary files will slow down your Internet Explorer. What's worse, sometimes it will freeze up.

Add-ons

Add-ons/Plug-ins can enhance your online experience, but they can occasionally interfere or conflict with other software on your computer, especially some suspicious add-ons/plug-ins can make your Internet Explorer very unstable and stop working when you try to open a website or a file.

Registry errors

If there are some errors that related to Internet Explorer, your IE will also stop working.

Incompatible programs

Sometimes, the browser will crash because you are trying to install a program that is incompatible with the browser.

Virus or spyware inflection

Viruses can also cause the browser to stop working by altering the registry.

Solution

Once you suffer the problem, have you know how to fix the Internet Explorer that has stopped working? The solution differs based on the cause. The followings are some ways that may help you fix the problem.

Disable all add-ons

Removing dubious add-ons/Plug-ins can make your IE much stable and faster. Follow the steps: Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). Or you can disable add-ons by opening Internet Explorer, clicking Tools, and then clicking Manage Add-ons.

If after disabling all add-ons solves your problem, which means that your Internet Explorer which stopped working before, can work, you might want to turn on some add-ons because you really need them. You can add them one by one and also this will allow you to figure out which add-on is causing the problem.

Reset IE settings

If disabling add-ons doesn't solve the problem, try resetting Internet Explorer back to its default settings. This removes all changes that have been made to Internet Explorer since it was installed, but it does not delete your favorites or feeds. For more information, see more information about resetting IE settings.

Reinstall or update Internet Explorer

If all the above mentioned ways cannot solve problems for you, you can reinstall your Internet Explorer. If any new updated version is available in market, download and install the latest one. Running Windows Update can often correct problems by replacing out-of-date files and fixing vulnerabilities.
